Short Natural Hair: Going to the Barbershop During COVID-19
So, I did a thing and finally went to the barbershop during COVID-19. My short natural haircut needed a much-needed boost. In December, I switched up my curly top and cut off all of my hair! Prior to COVID-19, I went to the barbershop weekly to get a lineup. When I tell you I had a fly Dope Boy Fresh part on the left side of my hair, I mean it!
COVID-19 and Shelter In Place
When shelter in place became a reality my weekly trips to the barbershop stopped because the barbershop is not considered an essential business. I wasn’t too upset by it. In March I began working from home so my hair wasn’t on the top of my list of concerns. LOL. Working from home also gave me a chance to grow my hair out a bit. I didn’t take my shrinkage into account, so it was a little shorter than I liked.
During COVID-19 I kept my hair fun, minus the trips to the barbershop. I started a blog and YouTube channel, testing out various hair paint wax colors and products on my curls. It has been fun playing with my curls, but I was past due for a cut. Five months was way past due. So, I sent my barber a message and scheduled an appointment.
Changes Due to the Barbershop During COVID-19
Here are some of the changes to my barbershop visit because of social distancing:
- I had to wear a mask inside of the shop
- I had to have my temper checked with a touchless thermometer upon entering the building
- I had to use hand sanitizer and sign a waiver
- My barber wore a mask
- There wasn’t a waiting room area for people to congregate
I made sure to document the journey. My latest vlog shows how I prepped for the haircut and takes you along with me to the barbershop.
