Summer 2020: My 3 Favorite Swimsuits
Welcome to Summer, Ladies and Gentlemen! Even if you have not ventured back into traveling I hope that you have at least been able to enjoy some of the beautiful weather this season. Because I am a runner, I can safely enjoy time outside as I cover the city on foot. I also have the benefit of having a swimming pool with enough space to social distance right outside of my window. Win, win.
If you read my latest blog post, 7 Ways to Travel Safe(r) During COVID-19, then you know I recently took a trip to Amelia Island, FL. In fact, it was my first trip since shelter-in-place began in March of this year. I was able to spend a few days with the sun in my face, sand on my feet, the sound of the waves in my ears and a drink in my hand.
I have mastered the art of traveling light because pre-COVID I traveled a few times a month for work on top of my personal travel. However, for some reason traveling to the beach always causes me to overpack. As I was preparing to pack all of the outfits that I had laying across my bed into my suitcase I remembered the most important pieces for a beach trip, my swimsuits!
I pulled out the big bin that I keep them stored in and realized two things: 1) I have way too many swimsuits and 2) I haven’t worn one since I went to Jamaica in January! The process of elimination led to choosing what I consider to be my Fav 3 for the year.
I’m a big fan of one-piece swimsuits. Not because I don’t like my body, but because I think they’re really cute. And if you know me, you know I always pick one that has sequins or is a bold color/print. I also like the fact that in most of them I can be comfortable and keep all of my assets inside the swimsuit if I decide to do more than sunbathing.
Swimsuits can be pretty pricy. I’m not sure why swimsuits in department stores cost more than some outfits I have put together. But hey, it is what it is. What I like about online shopping is that there is usually a sale every day (or at least weekly) and most of the time if I purchase a certain dollar amount, the shipping is free. I will say that I always double-check the size chart when ordering swimsuits online because a lot of retailers won’t let you return them. It makes sense if you think about it. Who wants to wear something so close and personal that someone can tuck the tags in, wear and return? Noone.
I have three go-to stores where I find most of my cute swimsuits. Online I shop at SheIn, J Crew Factory and ASOS. My favorite big-box store is of course like many of you, Target. Each year I get excited at the thought of picking a swimsuit that is not only cute but makes a statement. For my most recent trip, I had the benefit of having a few new swimsuits to choose from because previous trips had been canceled due to COVID-19. See how that Silver Lining worked out?
