Cartagena Colombia: My 7-Day Travel Vlog
In April, I had the pleasure of spending 7-days in Cartagena, Colombia! This was by far one of my FAVORITE vacations. The people, the food, the culture, the history, the vibe; I loved it all! Cartagena is rich in all of these things and so much more. I didn’t even hit the tip of the iceberg in what I was able to see and do during my 7-days there.
I usually plan and book all of my trips myself, however, I booked this trip through Travel Divas, a travel company that specializes in group travel management drenched in Black Girl Magic. Cartagena was my third trip with Travel Divas and as always, they did not disappoint. I highly recommend Travel Divas if you’re looking to take a vacation and you don’t want to worry about planning it. The trip was originally planned for 2020, but…COVID-19. However, it wasn’t a loss because the trip was re-booked at no extra cost to me and served as the pre-game for my 40th Birthday!
In rare form, I vlogged each day of the trip and I’m so glad that I did. I’ll forever have not only memories and photographs of my time in Cartagena, but video as well. I managed to combine the majority of my trip into a 15-minute vlog. Trust me, 15-minutes does not do the trip any justice. Each day was packed with so much knowledge and fun! Our tour guide is a native of Colombia, so we learned about the fusion of Spanish and African culture in the country and many other historical nodes that I would have missed on my own.
Travel Tips and Observations
- There were several restaurants that I visited where no one spoke English. Pull up Goole Translate and you’ll be fine. Everyone was really nice and patient.
- At the time of travel, masks were required, even when outside.
- There was a 10:00 pm curfew as a part of COVID-19 restrictions.
- Pack comfortable shoes if you plan on site seeing.
- Pack comfortable and cool clothes. The temperature was about 10 degrees hotter than in Atlanta.
- Bring sunscreen. Periodt.
- Convert your currency once you arrive in Cartagena. I used a currency conversion booth at a mall and received more for my USD than I would have if I converted my currency in the ATL airport.
- Street vendors are everywhere and can be aggressive. Say, “No Gracious” and you’ll be fine.
- Be open-minded when you order food. I make it a habit not to travel and eat the same food I eat at home. Immerse yourself in the culture!
